Apricum – The Cleantech Advisory recently hosted a career day for female students in collaboration with the Technical University of Berlin’s (TU Berlin) Women’s Career Week. The half-day event consisted of an interactive session that provided clear and accessible insights into the dynamic world of cleantech consulting. The event was part of Apricum’s ongoing recruiting activities to reach relevant students from top universities who are considering a career in consulting and cleantech. In particular, Apricum is committed to increasing its number of women consultants. Being part of the Women’s Career Week at TU Berlin was the ideal opportunity to attract and identify great talent for our internship program and beyond.
Partner Florian Mayr, a seasoned management consultant with a wealth of experience in the renewable energy sector, kicked off the day by introducing Apricum and its unique hybrid consulting model that blends transaction advisory expertise with business consulting skills. His talk provided the group of twenty female STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) with practical insight into the exponential growth, wide range of technologies and diverse clientele that a career in cleantech consulting can provide as well as the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the fight against climate change.

Next, Project Manager Jesselyn Malimata, a clear example of Apricum’s commitment to talent development, addressed the group. Jesselyn’s journey at Apricum began in 2018 with an internship and, after her performance secured here a permanent role as a consultant, her career progressed to senior consultant and then to project manager – a role that has her leading diverse teams and complex projects to successful completion. Jesselyn’s presentation gave the students an inside look at a genuine consulting project by providing an overview of a recent project she led that analyzed the business model of, and suggested improvements for, a net-zero housing startup.

Afterwards, Partner Florian Haacke, head of Apricum’s materials and technology practice group, took the audience on a journey through recent engagements in solar, energy storage, green hydrogen, CC(U)S and related technologies. His insights showcased Apricum’s active involvement in pioneering technologies, translating complex concepts into tangible advancements for clients.

The spotlight then shifted to the real heroes of the day, Jesselyn and Senior Industry Specialist Hoora Sarajan. Similar to Jesselyn’s career development, Hoora’s elevation to senior industry specialist – a position created exclusively for her – served to further deepen Apricum’s consulting capabilities by enabling her to focus on the creation of a company-wide know-how pool. In this role, Hoora is responsible for building the technical understanding of renewable energies focusing on upstream activities around PV materials, components, cells and modules. Jesselyn, along with Hoora, closed by describing their personal journeys, what led them to apply to an internship at Apricum. They talked about what they love about the cleantech sector, consulting and why they are still at Apricum after many years.

Florian Mayr followed up emphasizing Apricum’s exclusive dedication to the cleantech industry. His insights resonated with the audience, showcasing the company’s holistic approach, where employees become experts, learning and contributing to client projects, all while enjoying a work-life balance often elusive in larger consulting firms.
To bring the sessions to a close, Cate Holtz, Apricum’s talent acquisition and development manager, delved into open positions, summarizing the profiles sought for internships and consultancy roles. Then Consultant Philipp Braukmann, a recent hire at the berlin HQ, provided insights into how his finance and cleantech consulting skills contribute to accelerating the global renewable energy transition.

The event transcended the boundaries of a typical recruitment drive.
